Yeah, they are very straightforward so the students have to give precise answers to show that they really understand what they are.

I was taken aback when I saw all the questions because they are all the easier parts of biology.

@ DonFrank - good to know that the post would have helped many candidates.

Your analysis on the mutation question was spot on and accurate.

In my opinion, the paper this year is relatively straight forward. But from the feedback I gathered, students was taken by surprised by the amount of lower 6 questions that came out in the essay section. Students generally feel that lower 6 topics do not appear so prominently on the essay section.

I believe that many candidates have benefitted from this.

The topics that show up are relatively easy , but in fact, the questions are deceptively easy. They really our understanding on these topics though.

For example, the question of mutation doesn't really test our understanding on mutation but the nature of the interaction between tRNA and mRNA. Most candidates fail to realise that there interaction is based on anti-parallel complementary base pairing so most of the candidates got the answers wrong (filling up the 8 blanks in the table ; stating the sequence of each codons complementary to their respective anticodons in the table)
